The Heron Way School PTA Committee is made up of four key members, some of which are newly elected each academic year. These Committee members help ensure the PTA’s smooth running year round.
We also welcome volunteers to take the reins to plan, organise and manage key events such as the Halloween and Fireworks event, Christmas Bazaar and Summer Fete. And if you have any new fundraising ideas or comments about how the PTA could be run, we’d love to hear from you too. Interested? Contact Claire Tyler.
Here’s how it works:
- You’re automatically a member of the Heron Way PTA if you have a child at the school or you are a member of staff here.
- An Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held in September, at the start of the school year, and everyone is invited to attend. At this meeting, a Committee is elected to run the PTA and those members are detailed below.
- The Committee and PTA members then meet together once a term to discuss the calendar of events and brainstorm ideas; everyone is invited to attend.
- Smaller working groups of approximately 6-8 volunteer members are set up at these meetings with a sole purpose to organise a specific individual event. These smaller groups meet regularly to plan, co-ordinate and manage their event.
Can’t attend the meetings?
As an automatic PTA member, it would be great if you could play a role. This can be as little as manning a stall at the Summer Fete or Christmas Bazaar, helping out at a Saturday Film Show (and you get to watch the film on the huge PTA-paid-for screen in the main hall!) or attending the Quiz Night.
Our aim is to enjoy raising school funds that will benefit our children and we invite you to do so too – there really is no better way to get to know the other parents on the playground and make new friends at the same time.

ChairClaire Tyler became Chair of the PTA in January 2016, following 2 years of helping on various events and jointly managing the Summer Fete in 2015.
Claire has 1 daughter in Year 6, and an elder daughter at Millais who left 2 years ago.
Claire’s role is to oversee the running of the PTA, including arranging and chairing PTA meetings, organising and coordinating events, and liaising with subcommittees, Heron Way staff and the Headteacher to ensure all events are successful and run smoothly. The Chair acts as a point of contact on any matters concerning the PTA and maintains close links with the school.
Claire also ran a children’s cookery franchise in the Horsham area and has previously worked as a Civil Servant for the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets.

Vice ChairSteve became the Vice Chair in 2014 after one year in the PTA. He currently has a son in Year 5 at Heron Way, and en elder son who is now in Year 8 at Bohunt.
Steve is a children’s entertainer, and also runs Lego clubs after school and in the holidays, and since last year is now also working part time as a teaching assistant at Heron Way.
His role of Vice Chair is to generally support Claire and assist with most of the sub-committees. He also deals with all the marketing, online activities and running of discos and quizzes.
